Ground cherries are in the same botanical family as the Solanaceas which groups tomatoes, eggplants, and potatoes.

Physalis can be identified by their unique pouch that covers the fruit.

Ground cherries are small round smooth golden fruits: they are sweet with a slight acidic taste. It is said that the ground cherry is diuretic, laxative, emollient, and sedative. This fruit is covered with sand-colored membrane that inspired its French name “Amour en cage” (trad: “Caged Love”). This fruit has from the cherry but its name!
